How I work
As a graduate level counseling intern and board-certified music therapist, I prioritize creative and strengths-based strategies towards growth for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. I ground myself in a person-centered approach towards therapy, emphasizing the therapeutic relationship and communicating acceptance, empathy, and respect to my clients. I believe all clients come into therapy with the inherent capacities they need to grow; as we work together, we’ll explore and capitalize on your lived experiences as strengths and resources towards therapeutic change. I also strive to decolonize the therapy environment, which means there is always space to incorporate fidget items, non-traditional seating, and a flexible, adaptive session structure. I often incorporate music, art, movement, and mindfulness into my sessions, individualized to each person’s preferences and areas of need.
My Education & Trainings
I am currently pursuing my Masters in Music Therapy and Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Immaculata University.
Prior to graduate school, I earned my Bachelor’s of Music in Music Therapy with a minor in psychology from the University of Dayton in southern Ohio. During my undergraduate experience and music therapy internship, I worked with individuals in a dementia neighborhood, K-1st grade special education classroom, adult day program for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, hospice program, Parkinson’s clinic, and pediatric hospital.
The relationship with your therapist is a large part of your success. Here’s more about me!
When I’m not working, you’ll find me trying a new coffee shop (extra points if there’s a quiet/study floor!), attending a yoga class or workshop at my local studio, or finding some playful creative time. I love going to concerts or music festivals, crafting new friendship bracelets, and doing YouTube karaoke to some of my favorite musical theatre songs (shoutout Hamilton, Waitress, and Wicked). I also love to travel to visit my friends/family and am looking forward to a post-graduation trip to London and Ireland in 2027!
Working With Me
I offer sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons/evenings at our Jenkintown, PA office in support of the Low Fee Program.
Ellyn is currently under supervision with Lauren Romeo, LPC (PA License: PC015735).
