How I work
As a therapist I strive to be authentic, warm, and engaging. I believe that building a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship is key to growth in therapy and make sure to go at the clients pace to build that rapport. I primarily work with children, teens, and young adults and strive to make therapy feel accessible to all. This means that I operate from a strengths-based perspective and utilize an eclectic method of pulling from components of play therapy, ACT, CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and more. When treating children and teens I take a collaborative approach and look to include parents/caregivers in treatment as appropriate.
My Education & Trainings
I received my bachelors in psychology from the University of New Hampshire. I then completed a dual masters program at Boston University where I earned my masters in social work (MSW) with a specialization in clinical work with children, youth, and families as well as a masters in education (EdM) with a specialization in severe special education.
During undergrad I interned at The Chase Home for Children, group home for adolescents in the foster care and juvenile justice systems. While there I facilitated skills groups and completed independent living assessments. I then worked as a paraprofessional in a life skills based special education program for students age 5-21 at Seacoast Learning Collaborative. This is where I found my passion for working with neurodiverse youth.
During graduate school I held an internship at Pathway to Possible where I supported adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the group home setting. My next internship was at the Manville School, a k-10th therapeutic day school for children with emotional and behavioral disabilities. Manville is part of the Baker Center For Children and Families and is connected with Harvard Medical School as a teaching and research site. At Manville I provided individual therapy to students, offered parent coaching, and facilitated classroom social emotional learning lessons.
After graduating with my masters degrees I worked as a school based therapist through The Home For Little Wanderers. In this position I provided individual therapy to general education and special education students in grades k-12 across five public schools. Following this role I worked as a clinician at the Ivy Street School, a therapeutic day and residential school for students ages 13-22 with primary diagnoses of Autism and trauma. At Ivy Street I provided individual, family, and group counseling that aligned with students IEPs and 504 plans.
These experiences have provided me opportunities to work therapeutically with individuals ages 5-70 and build confidence in working with challenges such as autism, ADHD, executive dysfunction, intellectual disabilities, anxiety, depression, school avoidance, and difficulties within the home and school settings.
I currently have my provisional social work license (LCSW) and am working towards my independent license (LICSW).
The relationship with your therapist is a large part of your success. Here’s more about me!
In my free time I enjoy exploring different crafts. I tend to get invested in a project and when I complete it I bounce to a new, totally different craft. Some activities I go back to are coloring, bracelet making, punch needle, knitting, crocheting, paint by number, collaging, watercolor, diamond art, lego botanicals, and more!
I’m part of a book club that is always reading something interesting. Every month we visit a different book store and then get lunch. Sometimes we take side quests and end up somewhere unexpected and fun - like at a parade or karaoke.
I love spending time with friends and family. I look forward to an annual friend’s trip to the mountains where we kayak in the lake and swim under waterfalls.
I also love spending time with animals. My best friend travels pretty regularly and while she’s away her cat stays with me. He’s the fluffiest little guy and I love to snuggle with him! He also has a super silly name: Chungledown Bim.
